RAM 2500 Cummins - Changing dual batteries
I have a 2017 ram 3500 6.7 my question is when approaching a hill and switching to 4th gear what speed should I maintain? I don’t want to burn up my transmission by testing this under a heavy load
I have a 2022 Ram 2500 with 6.7 68RFE trans. When coming down a hill in tow haul the transmission starts downshifting through the gears and comes close to redlining. Is there a better way to handle this.
Mind made up, sounds like keeping the baffle and removing the foam is the best way to prevent damage to the turbo, dont want the foam breaking up and sucking into the turbo, but want the baffle to keep an even airflow to the turbine keeping it better balanced.
Myth #1: "The hard start capacitor releases it's stored energy at compressor startup and will reduce the generator current load" No, the hard start capacitor more greatly changes the phase angle of the magnetic field (as opposed to the smaller start capacitor the AC used from the factory) impinging upon the compressor's rotor more greatly than a smaller start capacitor, giving it more startup torque. As a result, it greatly INCREASES the Volt-Amps (decreases power factor) required to start the compressor, posing an even greater "surge" load on a generator powering the unit. Hard-start capacitors are only used in the industry to start aging compressors which require more power input to get the rotor spinning than what would normally be needed when the unit is newer. Capacitors are by their nature of being in essence DC devices, are not capable of "storing" an AC power source to deliver to the motor at startup. The only thing you have done here is delay start of the fan motor from the startup of the compressor motor, lessening the startup current required. Most Dometic thermostats already perform this function, in reverse, by first starting the fan, then delaying compressor start by either 3 minutes (from loss of AC / first turn on or last compressor power down) or 10 seconds (restart of AC as thermostat demand calls for it). On units that already introduce a delay which keeps the fan and compressor motors from starting at the same time, the only way to reduce the generator load when starting the AC is to utilize a soft-start unit. The soft-start gets the compressor's rotor spinning in a controlled, ramped-up fashion as to not produce such a huge instantaneous spike in current demand as the stationary rotor would impose upon startup. These are well-understood (by the industry) facts of induction motor powered AC compressors, not opinions.
Thanks... Worked just as you said. I tried other steps provided by others but this one worked first try.
Got me a '16 2500 single axle 6.7L and just gotta tell you that yours is best and thorough vids. I just purchased my first Cummins. Thank you!

Dont have any emissions on my truck. Bought it from the dealer that way.
ram rebel 2022 with 224f oil temp is that normal ?
Too high unless towing heavy
Why don’t they sell that line going from transmission to bypass by itself?
Yea agree. Maybe a little cheaper this way? Don't know, ha.
After having owned my truck since the beginning of covid i didnt even know about this til probably a week ago today. Totally freaked me out that id driven all this time and didnt know but a few things i learned. First i did confirm (at least on my truck 2013 3500 6.7 turbo diesel) that unless my 4WD is engaged, the u-joints aren't moving. I tested this out to make sure. And the ONLY time i ever engage 4WD is at the boat ramp when taking the boat out of the water, and if the ramp isnt that steep i leave it in 2WD. Nonetheless after watching this video i was determined to get this done asap so i got the grease gun, the Lincoln 5803 needle fitting, and the Lucas oil Red & Tacky grease tube. I went ahead and carefully bent the tip of the needle fitting as i noticed its really tight getting it in there properly. I found the area where the fitting is (tho i still couldn't see it) and sprayed the are with some PB blaster to clean it up a little. Finally i went for it and hes right that when you stick it up right on the fitting and press hard you can sort of feel it lock into place. Did 3 to 4 pumps and yes when you spin the shaft around to the other side you can see some grease coming out. After complete i turned the truck on, engaged 4WD, and drove slowly arounr my house as to make sure the grease had circulated (tho i dont think this is necessary). Needless to say i feel much better now so thanks for this video. 👍👍
Very helpful thanks
canu send me this file
Hi Marion. I've learned a lot from your videos and appreciate the time and effort you put in to help us. I watched your video and replaced my batteries this morning. The batteries were out for about 2 hours from removal to replacement. I removed both per your recommendation. The truck started right up and all systems appeared to come online until I put it in reverse and had no cameras. I get a blue screen and message saying "camera system unavailable". Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
Can you put one on the transmission?
Very nice video. About to do my 15 3500 buts deleted out of necessity so it’s a lil easier. Thx for the effort making and posting ur work.
Great video
Thanks……thanks A+
Sorry, if i missed, but what year is the truck, your working on?
2014
THANKS BROTHER! I have a 2012, and going to swap out both filters soon. Wanted a safe tutorial, and your video was excellent. Thanks again.
I’m 78 years old and get tired of holding these heavy jugs up to fill my DEF tank. I can get diesel a mile away from my house but the nearest DEF dispenser is 60 miles away. After 10 years of owning this diesel, I need to go back to a gas engine.
Thank you Sir ..I'm about to install mine, and your video was so helpful. I'm not going to bother replacing the tape. I'm thinking of using a small bead of clear silicone for a little cushion Anyway ..Thank You
Video was great enjoyed watching am going to attempt to update my gps sometime this month.....wish me luck....done the firmware update already was easy...
So how important is it to change the coolant every 10k miles. Bought my first cummins today and dadh says the fuel filters only have 15% left on em. So assuming i should do em all.
The coolant doesn't need to be change for at least 100K unless you run very high transmission temps. Talking the 68RFE. Fuel filters every 15k.
Hey Marion, Thank you for posting the reset procedure. I tried the TDR way and it never worked after at least 10 tries. Tried it your way on my 2014 and it worked the first time. Thank you again!
Great video !!!! Keep them coming ! Super informative!
Do you know why my uconnect 8.4 keep changing by itself? It keep changing aux to Bluetooth and than to radio I try to do factory reset nothing happen can you please help me my truck is a 2014 ram 1500 longhorn Laramie
That radio has always had bugs like that. Mine switches channels for no reason. Factory reset is all I know. Some say they have luck with disconnecting both batteries for 30 minutes. (just from the positive posts).
I have one on my truck also. Makes oil changes mess free, I can drain the oil back into the empty 1 gallon containers. Nice video
Wish you showed how you ran the pump wire and to what….
I’ve decided on the Boyd Welding aluminum tank with a nozzle…35 gallon for camping.
4:34 did you drive up on ur ramps or jack ur truck up and put them under ur tires?
I use to work for Komatsu and they had it on everything during the time I worked there. That came straight off the assembly line. So, I decided to give it a try; never looked back after that. lol
Is that a golf cart gas tank? 🤣, good idea🍻
just had mine done. It now really likes to drink DEF. Everything else pretty much the same
Yup, I bought one two years ago. Just waiting for you to install yours. I'll put mine in this month. Thanks
You will not regret it. Had mine on since I bought the truck in 2012.
Where can I get one of these drains?
😎👍
I have the same valve and love it!! I always enjoy your videos! Thanks for sharing Marion!!
Stalhbus oil drain fitting is a nice low profile one if concerned about it getting knocked off. Having that extra long drain piece on there will work as leverage if it ever gets hit against something and the stalhbus can't just be drained by somebody coming up and hitting the fitting
Glad to see another post. I am on the 3rd year with my 2013 Ram 2500, my first diesel, and learned how to care for it from your videos. I put the easy drsin from Geno's two changes ago and quit making a mess because the oil came out to fast for my pan. 150,700 on mine now, 33,000 of that towing our 5th wheel. Thanks, Marion
Good call on that. I picked up the drain valve made by Femco, got it from Genos. I've had it installed for several years and am happy to have done it
So good to hear from, Marion. You and I are very close to the same age and anything that simplifies our lives has got to be a good thing. I do not know that I will be doing this modification, at least not now. I have used your plan to make that third hand device and the modification to the wheel well. I also agree with you on using Ram filters vs cheap imitations. Hope all is well with you and that you start doing more videos in the future.
2001 dodge ram 2500 cummins transmission overheating on automatic transmission??? Help
I believe a slight bit more oil remains in the sump that does not get drained out as a result of the design of the valve internally.
Hi Marion, I really like it!...is very useful, and as you said, the oil pan is high enough to not worry about, specially if not doing hard offroad with the truck. Last time I changed oil on my 2013 2500 SLT, for some unknown reason the oil level end above the dipstick max level, so I was thinking to pour some oil out...but was a little reluctant to do it due to the mess will have with the OE plug...this one will be the solution!. Thank you!
I installed one last year. It does make the oil change easier and less messy. Slowing down the flow prevents the splash that occurs when pulling the plug. Good product 👍
Marion, good morning. Now that you have installed and used it, and it gets your approval, i will install mine on my next oil change. I bought my drain about a year after i bought my 2010 3500 diesel. Great seeing you, and another great video. Adios
Love watching your videos I’ve got a Laramie 14 also 62,000
Been tempted to get one myself for a long time. Did it just screw into the oil drain plug hole?
